March already and we finally come to our
very first, proper talk of the year. Yes, it has been too long and yes I have
been really busy so let’s get down to it. You’ve been patient enough having to
make do with Review Corner’s and pay-per view previews since January and I
would like to think that you’ve missed me somewhat, but the truth is that I
haven’t been anywhere, just really, insanely busy with this that and everything
else that I haven’t had the time until now to sit down and talk to you lovely people
about what’s been happening and what we’ve missed.
First of all, I know that you would like
to join me in paying tribute to both Mae Young and Nelson ‘Big Daddy V / Mable’
Frazier who passed away recently. Both made their mark on the wrestling industry
in different ways. Mae Young was the first wrestler to compete in nine
different decades and Nelson Frazier will always hold a dear memory in your
Wrestling God’s mind as Mabel from Men on a Mission. He may not have been the
greatest wrestler in history but he tried very hard to put on a show and the
memories he leaves behind from what I often refer to as the golden years of
wrestling will remain always. Let’s hope the next two entrants in that battle
royal in the sky can find peace in the ring above.
Now, the meat and bones of what we’re
all here for. There were many issues which I could have covered here but with
still limited time on my hands I thought it may be prudent to discuss the one
which everyone has been talking about. Not Hulk Hogan hosting WrestleMania XXX
– come one, we all knew he’d be back – that will be covered in the WrestleMania
XXX preview, but C.M Punk packing his bags and walking out of WWE with his head
held high. Yes, it may be late news but it’s still a topic everyone else seems
to be wading in on so why not us?
For those who have been living in a cave
and don’t know what I’m talking about then let me refresh your memory or break
the news to you should it be coming in for the first time. The night after
Royal Rumble, C.M Punk waltzed into Vince McMahon’s office on Raw and
legitimately quit the company citing a number of different reasons for his
departure. It may have been a shock to some but others who knew how Punk was
feeling, how tired and beaten down he was expected this, just not so soon. Days
before the Royal Rumble took place; C.M Punk agreed to be interviewed by an MMA
interviewer in his own home. Your Wrestling God has found and reviewed that
footage several times over and I can honestly say that if you saw it before the
event and didn’t expect Punk to do something drastic then you need your head
testing.
During the interview, Punk seemed
lethargic, tired and not at all bothered about professional wrestling. When
quizzed about the industry his answers were uninteresting and vague. I half
expected the short tempered Punk to throttle the interviewer and throw him
across the room when he was constantly pushed. Yet he didn’t. C.M Punk didn’t
seem the least bit bothered or riled which the same man of a few months
previous would have been. Careless about not completing his task of seeing
Triple H outed from his position, something Punk had previously stated was his
intention, and making a different to the business as a whole, it was a truly
worrying sight to see C.M Punk so uninterested. From this footage, something
had to be done and days later it was announced that ‘The Best in the World’ had
packed his bags and walked out.
Various reports say differing things
about Punk’s confrontation of Vince McMahon that January 27th night. Some say
that the former WWE Champion couldn’t have had his mind changed and that with
his contract expiring in July anyway he had nothing to lose. Others say the
Vince McMahon offered him more money and a better position to stay. The truth
my fellow minions, is that Vince McMahon offered no resistance to C.M Punk
leaving the company. Sticking to his mantra that officials of the company must
save face at all times, regardless of the situation they’re put in, Vince
McMahon just sat there and did nothing to stop one of his top stars leaving,
except shake his hand and thank him for everything he’d done for the company.
Is Vince, out of his mind? With WWE’s
main event scarce as it is, Vince should have shoved a hefty cheque as well as
assurances that Punk would receive the same treatment as The Undertaker, John
Cena and everyone higher than him gets about his future and well being. Would
Punk have left in July anyway? Yes, of course he would. The man is tired and
worn down, he’s earned the right to take time off, but the fact remains Vince
McMahon may as well have spat in Punk’s face and told him he was being disloyal
to the company. In the end it had the same effect. Witnessing McMahon’s stoic
response could only have spurred Punk on in his belief that he no longer meant
anything to WWE. It was yet again poorly dealt with, but then should we have
expected anything else?
The question is what now? From 2011 –
2014, C.M Punk has amassed a small fortune worth millions of dollars. The money
and financial security was the only reason he signed a contract extension in
2011. Now he has what he’s always wanted, where does Philip Brooks go from
here? Many are certain that he’ll return to WWE at some point in 2014, it has
even been said that the Raw in Chicago before WrestleMania XXX would be the
perfect time for him to return, but I disagree. It’s a fact that three months
aren’t enough for a wrestler to recover fully and history states that a
wrestler who has walked out in such fashion is more financially valuable to the
promotion when they do decide to return. Batista, The Rock and Brock Lesnar
have all proved this in recent years.
I have heard it bandied around that C.M
Punk may even go to New Japan Pro Wrestling where an open invitation awaits him
from Bullet Club leader Prince Devitt. If Punk wants to return to the WWE but
wants to keep them waiting in nail biting fashion then he could return to Ring
of Honor for a two or three months stint. Then again, looking at WWE now, is
there anything left for him in the company? He’s already battled the best and
is the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era. There’s an option which
states he could try and beat his own reign but with a serious lack of
challengers it would be a stretch to drag that out for over a year.
Seeing as the final straw was the fact
he was booked to lose to Triple H at WrestleMania XXX, I can’t see Punk in any
hurry to return and neither should he be. Let us not forget that Punk has done
a great deal to help WWE through tough times. He suffered injuries galore but
was still there week in and week out when he was needed. For that, WWE should
be allowing him whatever time he believes he needs and before Punk walked out
should have assured him that after light duties which included no house show
appearances and only Raw once a week, followed by a high profile victory over
Triple H at WrestleMania XXX, he would be allowed six months out to recover. It
would have gone someway to proving how much he was valued.
Whatever C.M Punk decides to do in the
future then I wish him all the very best. If he decides not to return to the
WWE then the very best of the independent circuit await him with whom he has
the ability to contest some unforgettable bouts with. If his intention is to
return to McMahon’s battleground, he should wait until at least SummerSlam and
then when WWE have no one else on the books to sell the event tap them for
double his previous price along with the guarantee that he’ll be used as a main
event star and not the under card player he occupied in late 2013. Then again
C.M Punk could be done with wrestling completely. He has enough money to last
him the rest of his life and he’s famous for living below his means. There’s
not left for him to prove in wrestling so like Steve Austin and The Rock he could
seek out a different path.
Of course wrestling will miss him, but
I’d rather miss him and possibly have him back even better at a later date than
keep him on the schedule he was carrying out before he left and have C.M Punk
be another wrestling tragedy or statistic.
Another Quick Note
It appears that out mystery commenter
has struck again. Not content with leaving pathetic notes on the Review Corner
blogs stating that they believe I don’t know anything and that I believe I’m a
real wrestling god, they have taken to simply leaving little notes on odd blogs
saying that I’m an idiot. You always get one retard don’t you? So to the gutless
little prick who leaves these messages and then hasn’t got the balls or guts to
leave a name just simply signs these messages with ‘anonymous’, go to hell.
We all know idiots like this are the
lowest form of life so I won’t pay attention to them anymore. Suffice to say to
the gutless moron out there who thinks this is fun and believes it ruins my
day, get a life. Everyone knows that jealousy is a horrible thing and those who
criticise do so because they’re not talented enough to do it themselves. The
ironic thing is, the blog they left the message on was one of the most poplar
ones I ever wrote and one which got several comments praising it.
There’s only one idiot and we knows it’s
not me. What a C***T.
Onwards and upwards...
