BUCKETS, SPADES AND MASKED MATADORES

The regular reader will have probably noticed that this blog has been busy with ‘Review Corner’ for the past couple of weeks and apart from the pay-per view previews each month, or in October’s case twice this month, there’s been a lack of the usual, spontaneous blogs discussing the goings on in the wrestling world. In fact this may be the first one of those this month and that’s thanks to an error on my part. Those who read the ‘Triple H: Thy Kingdom Come’ Review Corner will have seen at the bottom of the page the ‘WWE Annual’ release was slated for review next.

Absent mindedly, I completely forgot that the ‘WWE Annual’ release is purely comprised of the previously released ‘Best of PPV 2012’ and ‘Best of Raw and Smackdown 2012’ titles. So there will be no Review Corner for the WWE Annual so if you want to know whether to buy it or not go back and read the separate Review Corners for each. That means we now have time for a short look back on the weeks previous with the next Review Corner on Monday 28th October with WWE SummerSlam 2013.

Impressive Showings

Over the last couple of weeks on Raw, Smackdown and pay-per view, WWE have eased in a few new names alongside those who are desperately trying to claw back some self respect. When it was announced that Kofi Kingston was going to square off against Bray Wyatt at Battleground – a match your Wrestling God knew was going to take place but WWE failed to put the match-plate up before the deadline to post the pay-per view preview so I couldn’t include it even though I’d written the match preview – I couldn’t help think that WWE were clutching at straws to try and restore something back to Kingston’s character.

Whilst Kofi Kingston isn’t the main focus of this point I’m trying to make, I am confident that WWE are setting something up featuring The Wyatt Family and stalled talent. With the actions of the Wyatt Family after Bray’s match at Battleground, then one can only believe that WWE are setting up a six man team which will feature Kane – when he’s finished filming See No Evil 2, Kofi Kingston and another as yet names superstar against The Wyatt Family at Survivor Series. Will this reinvigorate Kingston’s career – no. That would take a major overhaul of his image and WWE’s treatment of him, but on the other hand, it couldn’t hurt.

The point in this category I set out to make was the new team of Los Matadores – Diego and Fernando - who made their WWE in a very impressive display on the September 30th Raw. Now, anyone who’s anyone knows that Los Matadores are the artists formerly known as Primo and Epico, without the addition of Rosa Mendes who has been given a leave of absence for a few months in order to sort out some personal problems. For anyone who hasn’t worked it out yet, Los Matadores companion, El Torito, is former Mexican midget wrestler Mascarita Dorada.

The artists formerly known as Primo and Epico may remind long time fans of the abominable, ‘Man ‘O’ War’ Aldo Montoya, who was portrayed in the mid-90’s by ECW legend Justin Credible but they are much better than that as shown in their debut match against 3MB which was very good and their following matches against teams such as Los Locales – Ricardo Rodriguez who has been working the character on NXT tapings and Tyson Kidd. Maybe Los Matadores will be the answer WWE are looking for to help the WWE Tag Team division if the company can get behind the duo more seriously than they did when they were just regular old Primo and Epico.

There never been any denying that the pair have the skills and charisma in the ring and let’s just hope that this recent change in name and image is what the doctor called for.

Coming Up

Your Wrestling God will be away for five days between October 21st and October 25th on a short holiday, which means that Hell in a Cell 2013 preview won’t be up until around 2pm on Saturday 26th. This is because whilst I am away I won’t have access to my computer or blog so will have to write up the announced matches – those which are announced after Sunday – when I return. After that, I will be putting up the SummerSlam 2013 DVD and Blu-ray review up on the 28th, the day of its release because of the time constraint.

For those who are currently liking ‘The Unforgettable’ series need to get in touch and say so. It doesn’t have to be a long message, but I need to know what you like and don’t like about it, otherwise it will disappear for good. On the subject of the series, ‘The Unforgettable...’ will be taking a hiatus until January whilst your Wrestling God pushes forth with his career outside the wrestling world. At this present time I’m spending so much of my time writing the article that I cannot get scripts ready to send away. But fear not, it will return in the New Year with ‘The Unforgettable – Rick ‘The Model’ Martel’.

My bags are packed, I can hear the sea calling me and I have my bucket and spade. Until I land back on planet WG...

Onwards and upwards...
