WOMEN'S TROUBLES

Beth Phoenix, Kharma, the Bella Twins, Kelly Kelly and now Eve. WWE has all but lost everything it was building its Divas Division on. Not to say it’s a bad thing, people leaving because four of these names were just rotten inside the squared circle. The point is that WWE and Vince McMahon are well aware that their Divas Division is naught but a joke and now they’ve all but confirmed it by allowing Eve to walk in the footsteps of her fellow Divas.

If I was WWE I would be asking my questions as to why all these women are leaving the company, rather than ply their trade on what has become a living monument to the titanic. Let’s be honest. The WWE Divas Division is sinking faster than Doctor Who these days and WWE need to take off the blinkers and start paying attention to it. Out of those who have left, only Phoenix and Kharma will be truly missed for their talents. Kelly Kelly was a looker but other than that she was useless. Eve though, whilst she started out as a brainless model type, in the end, she did evolve into something representing a wrestler and for that she must be commended.

Now, WWE need to look at who they have left. The new WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn isn’t good enough at this stage in her career to hold a division together and WWE can’t even go to their legends roster because all of the Divas who have left such as Lita and Trish Stratus have either age visibly which means Vince wouldn’t employ them again or they’ve had the breast implants removed that WWE insist its Divas get before stepping into the ring. Can you imagine anyone who would have them re-implanted just to try in vein to help a failing division? So what does Vince do? Does he sit there mourning his losses and allow the Divas Division to slip away? No! That, as easy and as welcoming as it may seem now isn’t the answer.

The answer Vince seeks lies elsewhere. In other words not in WWE. I have an extensive knowledge of those Divas in WWE developmental and only a handful are WWE bound. By that I mean will appear on the main roster. Out of those handful, I can only see Paige making it big in WWE should they revise their policy on female wrestlers and actually do something meaningful with them. Vince has to stop hiring models and women who are just using WWE to get into other mainstream jobs, such as acting or playboy. This has to become a thing of the past and so does WWE’s infatuation with pretty women. We all like to look at a smooth face and great torso now and again but as I’ve said before, big tits and a pretty will only get you so far. When you’re in the middle of the ring with no one there to hide your flaws then what are a pair of bangers going to do?

The time has come for WWE to admit their failures with the Divas. I’ve said this before but the answer lies across the water. Should Vince put aside his pure hatred for the independent circuit then he could feasibly find six or seven women in the USA. Many of them ply their trade on the indie circuit and many would fit right in with a WWE Divas product aimed at real wrestling and not flashing the odd knocker now and again. If Vince is adamant that the indie circuit isn’t the place to turn then he must look to other countries to aid him in this plight. A company such as WWE with unlimited resources should have a scouting network which stretches beyond America and England. And Japan is the place WWE needs to look.

The land of the rising sun has a vast array of female wrestlers who could take the Divas Division and rebrand it into something truly worth watching. Remember the days of Alundra Blaze and Bull Nakano? If so then you will remember how good, if scarce the former Women’s division used to be. Vince could have that again. Japanese promotions such as ‘Sendai’s Girls Pro Wrestling’, ‘Pro Wrestling Wave’, ‘Osaka Pro Wrestling’, ‘Japanese Women’s Pro Wrestling Project’ have so much talent in their ranks that Vince would have no trouble persuading a few of the women with a big payday to jump ship and be part of a new revolution in WWE’s Divas roster.

The next step after acquiring new talent and putting it to good use is getting rid of that eyesore which is the WWE Divas Championship. It’s a hideous piece of equipment and needs to be replaced by a new Championship or the old Women’s Championship. A Championship which looks refined but also makes a statement. After that WWE has to do away with the name ‘Divas Division’. It just brings up thoughts of stroppy bitches who won’t work unless their every demand is met. I’m pretty sure women would rather be a part of the WWE Women’s Division rather than be referred to as a Diva. When all of this is put into effect only then can WWE begin from scratch with exciting new stars and gripping storylines which bring in viewers rather than turn them off.

WWE missed a trick by not signing the Blossom Twins who are now competing on TNA’s British Boot Camp, the pair are good in the ring and easy on the eye. They were in WWE’s sights for a short while before the company lost interest because they weren’t built like the Incredible Hulk.

Saying all this, none of it is an easy trick. If WWE were to implement these changes it would take at least a year if not longer to turn the division around and make it mean something again. When a part of your product is this bad then there is no quick fix available. It would take time, patience, planning and most of all a willingness to see the whole project through without losing interest half way in. And let’s be honest now. When have we ever known WWE to have patience with anything that isn’t earning them money?

Onwards and upwards...
