GOLDEN OLDIES

In a bid to attract more viewers to the stale and predictable product they currently knock out, WWE, once again in all it's lack of wisdom, has decided not to build any new stars, but bring back the nostalgia to the world of wrestling. Good move. Not.

Vader, Sid, Jim Duggan, Sgt Slaughter, even the Great American Bash have all been wheeled out in recent weeks to try and bring an old school feel to the WWE. It hasn't worked. WWE have even gone as far as to rank Sid and Vader in the WWE power 25 on WWE.COM. I like a joke, but that's pathetic, even by WWE's standard.

Of course this could have all been avoided of course, if WWE had have built new stars and not buried guys like Zack Ryder, who they now expect us to take seriously as Smackdown GM. The Smackdown: Great American Bash special even sacrificed Hunico, Camacho and Drew McIntyre to Slaughter, Duggan and one man comedy show, Santino. If three young men in the prime of their career, trying to get a foothold on the ladder are given to the old men and the clowns to make fun of, then how can we ever take them seriously in the future.

Unfortunatley this trend isn't showing any signs of fading away. Oh no. Expect to see Ric Flair back in WWE soon, followed by some of his cronies from the 80's and 90's. To top it all off, WWE are going ahead with plans for a C.M Punk vs Stone Cold Steve Austin match at Wrestlemania 29. Once again relying on the old timers instead of the young blood to sell the biggest event of the year.

Maybe WWE has forgotten how to make stars. Maybe this is as good as it gets for WWE now. Maybe we have to accept the legends because we're getting nothing from the new talent. It's a poisoned challice. I'll leave you to ponder this question. Which evil would you prefer?

Watching Ryback and Brodus Clay or seeing Ric Flair's man tits bounce around the ring, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan with his rotund gut and wooden two by fore which is less stoic than his wrestling ever was?

Onwards and Upwards...
